Sarah is a Science Teacher at Testbourne Community School and this is Sarahs first year on the Mityana Team.
"It has been a huge privilege to be part of the team establishing the partnership between Mityana Secondary and Testbourne School. I visited the school for the first time in 2004. Since that time I have been able to get to know the school, staff and pupils. They are very interested in Testbourne, in Whitchurch and have been keen to build up this link which officially began last year. Testbourne Community School
Testbourne is a mixed comprehensive school for pupils aged 11-16, serving the town of Whitchurch and the surrounding area. We have earned a reputation as a friendly, successful and high-achieving school where pupils of all abilities are encouraged and enabled to do their very best. Our pupils tell us that they enjoy coming to Testbourne, are expected to work hard and are proud of their school.
Young people only get one chance at secondary education and our aim is to make the time they spend with us special - to raise them above the ordinary and provide them with a setting where they can feel happy and safe and achieve personal success.
All of our pupils have a right to the best educational and social experience and that is what we aim to provide. We want them to enjoy learning and do well academically; to make friends and have fun; to gain a depth of knowledge and understanding of the world about them; to meet and rise to new challenges; to be positive members of the school and community they belong to; to display in all that they do the timeless values of respect, courtesy, diligence and integrity and to leave us when the time comes as confident young people, proud of their achievements and successes, equipped and ready for a bright and happy future.
The Testbourne-Mityana partnership is a great example of the ethos, energy and enthusiasm of Testbourne in action and it is enriching our whole school community. Every year group has taken the project to heart, finding ways to raise funds to help Mityana pupils enjoy the resources which we take so readily for granted. A number of our young people have had the privilege of visiting Mityana and we have learnt together how pupils learn and live in a very different part of the world. This is a very special partnership and one we are very proud and grateful to be part of.
