2008 Project Team Pages

This part of the site is the archive for the 2008 Mityana Team created in November 2008. It contains details of the team members, their fundraising activities, and a really nice record of their visit to Uganda in October 2008.

They think its all over, it is now !

So that's it !!. Here we are at the close of the 2008 Testbourne-Mityana Project. After all the preparation and fundraising earlier in 2008, we had a really successful visit to Uganda in October. The team returned safely, with happy memories, profound thoughts, and a new outlook on the world around them.

A huge thank you goes to all those who have supported this years project - parents, friends, company sponsors, but especially to the organisers Dodie Marsden, Sarah Kinsey and Dick Stevens.

Read the Daily Diary from the Team visit to Uganda

In the early hours of Friday morning, 17th October 2008, the team gathered at Heathrow Airport for the start of their African adventure. Later on Friday evening we received the phone call with the welcome news that the whole team had arrived safely in Uganda, with no one missing, and nothing lost. More here.

The team met up with their Ugandan buddies, have eaten with the school and visited the orphanage. The gifts of tools, sports kit and money were presented at the School Assembly and were gratefully received.  More details here....

Read the updates on the days 4 - 8 here....  More experiences in school and eating the local cuisine. Also learning to grow local crops and the challenges of irrigation. Finally, saying goodbye to the buddies and sharing their gifts.

Visits to a local historical site and then a day seeing the inauguration of the Bishop here before making the journey out from the Mityana district for the second phase of their trip.

Some excellent pictures from the Murchison Falls Country Park here

and then on return to Entebbe, a visit to Monkey Island. The only surprise is that more weren't left there.

Saturday morning, 1st November saw the return of the Team at Heathrow, safe & well. With suitcases full of souvenirs and heads full of memories, they were welcomed home by parents just happy to see them home.

The new Cots have arrived

During the visit to the Maternity Ward in Mityana 2008 many of the team were moved by the conditions in which the women and babies were being cared for. They spotted an opportunity to make a difference by pooling their remaining funds and buying some new infant cots.

We are delighted to say that the new cots have just arrived and are being put to good use immediately.
